Pronoia (n.) – The belief that the universe is conspiring in your favour. «Pronoia is the positive counterpart of paranoia. It is the delusion that others think well of one. Actions and the products of one's efforts are thought to be well received and praised by others. Mere acquaintances are thought to be close friends; politeness and the exchange of pleasantries are taken as expressions of deep attachment and the promise of future support. Pronoia appears rooted in the social complexity...

"Having retired as the drone act Mystified, Thomas Park became interested in working on some ideas for live performance.  A friend, Jack Hertz, shared a simple piece of html code that would allow a user to mix various sounds together using embedded media players. Thomas worked with the code, developing different versions. Some had video loops, some had more loops or fewer. He also worked on selecting which loops to contain in these mixing consoles, paying attention to how they...

No doubt Renzo Peressi is the most prolific experimental electronic music artist from Venezuela. For nearly two decades he has released on Mahorka and other labels music ranging from purely electronic experimental glitch, microsound, clicks and cuts (as Abluonihil, KROTOS), through more formulated and organic technoish or ambientish pieces, incorporating field recordings and live instruments (as Mendigo), to more melodic electronica/IDM (as Remell). Méta - Forma meta - from greek - beyond  forma - from latin - shape Metaforma is an attempt to go beyond the familiar and overwhelming musical forms. It is the outcome of a straight, primordial and creative journey, where natural and artificial sounds, human and machine noises, memories from the past and visions of the future overlap, and all these elements are blended in a meditative and hypnotic flux of sounds. Metaforma represents the call to go beyond the first layer of shape and texture,...

"In just four songs TFSL creates worlds that need decades to be explored. The music in 'III' is drowned in tape hiss as we need it to be, it's as dreamy as its roots in shoegazing psychedelia but has somehow managed to remain as punchy and primal as any underground rock record born and raised on the Balkans. All stories need to have their epic ending, but we should all hope we're able to experience many more chapters of Tales From The Sleeping Land before we find oursevels dragged back...

PRELINGUAL MUSIC (Janne Nummela, Jan 2018) "I was in England. I stood on an embankment by a small heavily flowing canal. The speed of the water had to be 40 km/h. There seemed to be a cantilever bridge over the canal, moving along with the water, like a ferry. The bridge was coming down the canal towards where I stood. The ferryman was a voluminously red-haired woman. I yelled to her: "Can I get on the bridge? Is the bridge strong enough for my heaviness?” She said: "I guess it...

The music of Encased in Amber tells it's stories through an intricate mesh of melodies and texture. Described as downtempo, ambient, and dreamy, Encased in Amber puts forth the concept that each time a piece of music is written it crystallizes what was felt and processed in that moment of time, like a fossil caught in amber.  The 'Parallel Worlds' project is intended as an audio-visual experience. The artwork of Jeroen Advocaat sets the scene with themes of distance, longing, and the...

“Birthmarks” by Slit In Slot is an emotional, harsh and considered work. A precise, even meticulous amalgam of field recordings, ambient and noise music, the release combines as much as it dissects all of its core components. The resulting music is sometimes drifting, sometimes scorching but always remaining humane. Beneath “Birthmarks” lies a strong and personal concept, a complex understanding of sound and an obsessive desire to transform the sonic ruins of our shared reality into new...

Grid Resistor is a project started by Thomas Park (known also for his Mystified and Mister Vapor projects) in May, 2017.  "Kappa" continues in Grid Resistor's tradition of only using machine sounds as source material, naming each solo release after a Greek letter and the songs in there - by the date on which they were composed and the track number composed on that date.  "Kappa" contains three mid-range, somewhat meditative industrial drone tracks. released July 2, 2017

Despair is good. Despair can be the nadir of one life and the starting point of an ascent into another, better one.  ― Dean Koontz  Exactly two years after embracing us in the weightlessness of its raw noise ambient Deffektegg is reaching for our throats again. Secret Silence covers a wide stylistical range from abstract soundscapes to song-like tracks. Faex Optim is an electronic musician from Edinburgh, UK, whose musical style frequently portrays a warm, ambient texture with overtones of magical chords and melody. Coming originally from a math/post-rock background (with sporadic incursions in electronica), he started producing electronic music in earnest in early 2014. His two EPs released the following year got exceptional critical acclaim and support, notably appearing on Igloo Magazine's Best of 2015.  4T Thieves has been putting out...

Every January, a group of philosophers met in a cave somewhere in Colorado. They got together for three days to think and philosophize about life and the universe around them. However, the 1887 meeting became a faithful one. The three day event became a week long discussion about life beyond this world. During this time, they disregarded the essentials of life, such as eating and sleeping. Therefore, all of whom were attending this event suffocated themselves to death in their own philosophy....

"In Papua New Guinea when a Kaluli songmaker searches for a new song, he may camp by a waterfall or a running stream. All the songs in the world are contained in the noise of the water. The songmaker listens carefully, sometimes for days, until he hears the voice of his new song.  Whenever we listen carefully, we come to hear that music is around us all the time. Noise is no longer unwanted sound. It is the breath of the world."  --John Adams  For "hearing the voice" of...

Nik (4T Thieves) has been putting out beautiful electronic music under the artist name 4T Thieves scince the early demoscene days. Nik also, quite notably, has been the manager of Kahvi Collective since 2001 (after taking over from Vae after he threatened to remove the site from the web 'due to lack of time'). Since then Kahvi.org has gone from strength to strength, being featured in national press, on BBC World, and has definitely arrived at 'cult' status (apparently long time ago already)....

In anticipation of and as a warm-up for the Netlabel Day 2015 we present to you a fantastic mashup of Mahorka classics, done by our friend 4T Thieves from Kahvi Collective. Bear in mind that this is not your usual mix of tracks following each other. You do have the seamless transitions, but one track playing at a time is a very rare occassion and, instead, two or three tracks are playing simultaneously throughout most of the set, with some of them tracks fading out just to pop up again (and...

Saint Null is a Bulgarian sound artist on the noise/ambient divide, conjuring up textures between meditative bliss and metropolitan noise pollution. In his debut release on Mahorka "The Sound of Non-existent Machines" the space is vast, and mostly cold. There is motion and activity at many levels, at all times, things vibrate at different rates, at times everything decays into (not so) white noise. Whatever the machines are, they occasionally operate in harmony. It's also likely that...

BHE (Binaural Headset Experiment), created by Simeon Dotkov (Mokushi, Animassacre) is a project aiming to recreate visual imagery through frequencies and sound design. It is a synesthesia inducing experience achieved through tampering with the stereo, frequency shifts and surreal reverberations. All of it is designed to create complex geometrical patterns and multidimensional shapes through algorithmic calculation of each sound in time. The main purpose, however, was to test existing scientific...

Birth, life and death - dawn, dusk and night. And the three symbols combined forming a completely different one. This project is Amotken's second release on Mahorka and contains 3 pieces that pretend to talk about the process of life: being born, getting old and dying, represented with the process of the day - dawn, dusk and night. The compositions are accompanied by 3 corresponding graphic symbols, created by the artist Quetzalo Coatl. The combination of them three is the symbol on the cover...

Willy Stamati's second album on Mahorka is part one of the to be continued project/series "In Search of Noise". The tracks were recorded live in the studio, utilizing various software generators and effects, but inspired by real-world industrial environments (as the last track's name hints). There was no pre-planned structure to the tracks. Each one started with a pre-prepared evironment and the feedback of hearing how the MIDI-controlled mannipulations affected the sound drove their...

Our planet’s rotation makes stars in the sky appear to shift positions. But one of them bright bodies happens to occupy a still position in the northern sky, while all the others revolve around it (yeap, that circular star trails long exposure night sky photos). The “star that does not walk”, the ("surprisingly" named so) Polar star, is the one closest to the Earth’s axis of rotation. Always providing the direction of North, it has guided sailors, travelers on land, armies and...

Rainmaking is a weather modification ritual performed to invoke rain. On June 7th 2014 the weather in Pleven, Bulgaria not only self-invoked the rain, but conducted its own ritual as well. A ritual now known as dronemaking, a sound modification act invoking sustained tones, textural build-ups and blurry melodic progressions with voices sinking in, floating or leading the gathering.  And so a rain circle was formed, to transform the water in sound, which was transmitted through five individuals...

Armozel (or Osirus II) is Moki Mcfly's second release on Mahorka and part of the 5 EPs conceptual project that started with his debut on the label Osirus V. The creative energy in this particular EP is directed towards building textures very subtle in a deep granular discourse. The most visceral sound designs in the series tend to occur during short abstractions, but here in Armozel Moki took some of those ideas and explored them at length, filling the tracks with details that can take some...

"Never seen a sky" is Nikola Marinov's second album as Kanalen Pluh (Канален Плъх, meaning 'sewer rat' in Bulgarian) to be released on Mahorka. At the same time it is his debut for this alter-ego and was published back in 2009 (believe it or not) on the long defunct label Karton Network. Maybe the most important question that could be asked in art is how is it even possible for it to be perceived. How can one be councious of it, of himself, of anything at all? Some say counciousness does not exist. But if it is so how are we aware of ourselves trying to make sense of these words? Or of the sounds we are about to hear? Some say counciousness is an illusion. But if it is then what is it trying to delude? There is nothing about which existence we are so sure but we are at the same...
